What is Modern Theatre Dance?

Modern Theatre dance is dance training that works on core
strength, flexibility and dance movements such as turns, jumps etc.

From the 1900s to our current day from choreographers such
as Bob Fosse and Jerome Robbins choreography for musicals in New York’s
Broadway and Hollywood began a form and energy that is exciting and wide in
style and movement.

Musicals we know andlove from Cabaret, The Lion King, Oliver, Hairspray, Oaklahoma to name a few
have amazing dance numbers and these trained dancers are trained in this style ‘Modern Theatre Dance’.

Modern Theatre Dance also includes ‘Isolations’ and Combination steps that are often used in Hip Hop, Street Dance and Music
Videos.

Exams will be available in the future for aspiring performers through the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance).

UCAS points for ISTD qualifications

With the UCAS application deadline looming (15th January 2012 at midnight), don’t forget to remind your students that they can now receive UCAS points for ISTD Level 3 Graded and Vocational Graded qualifications!

If any of your students took their Grade 6 and/or Intermediate from 1^st September 2010 (when the qualifications was transferred to the Qualifications and Credit Framework), they can receive the following UCAS points. The number of points they can get depends on how well they did in their examination (i.e. Distinction, Merit or Pass).

When completing the online UCAS online application form, there are multiple sections that need to be completed:

Selecting the subject (Dance) and then specifying the genre (e.g. Imperial Classical Ballet)
Inputting the qualification date as stated on the certificate
Selecting the awarding organisation – the ISTD should appear on this list;
Selecting the grade (Distinction, Merit or Pass).

Classes start back in January on Fridays again in Clifden from the 13th of January.

Modern Theatre Dance, Voice, Drama, Performance and skills for stage and confidence for life.

Cost for the 12 week term is 135euro this is a 90min class

Modern Dance can be taken separately

a 45min class is 90euro for a 12 week term

we study grade one modern theatre sllyabus and work on scripts and performance technique…and experience.
